Class Actions
Our firm is an experienced leader in the handling of class action and mass tort litigation. Both federal and state judges have appointed members of the firm to represent plaintiff interests in such cases.
Our attorneys have been successful as Court-Appointed Counsel in cases arising out of product defects, chemical releases, train derailments, and environmental catastrophes such as oil spills. The cases in which we have been involved often have resulted in significant settlements for plaintiffs. For example, the firm was Court-Appointed Plaintiffs’ Counsel in the Vioxx case, which concluded with a settlement of over $4 billion covering more than 50,000 individuals. The firm also was Court-Appointed Plaintiffs’ Counsel in the case of the Murphy Oil spill following Hurricane Katrina, which resulted in a settlement of approximately $330 million for thousands of property owners in St. Bernard Parish.
Members of the firm currently hold Court-Appointed positions, and are taking active roles, in cases involving formaldehyde exposure in FEMA trailers after Hurricane Katrina, and in cases where property damages and personal injuries have been suffered by thousands of homeowners because of Chinese-manufactured drywall. The firm also will take an active role in litigation arising out of the B.P. Oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Our goal for our clients, either as individuals or as members of a class action or mass tort case, is to obtain adequate compensation for the damages they've suffered, and to discourage or terminate the wrongful conduct causing such damages.
