Reuters Investigates recently published a multi-part exposé on antibiotic-resistant bacteria, or "superbugs" linked to excessive use of antibiotics. Noting that there is no national database of outbreaks, the reporters filed public records requests in every state to determine how outbreaks of potentially deadly pathogens are being handled. The results were not very promising.

Jurors recently awarded him nearly $9 million, the largest medical malpractice verdict in the county's history.

Medical Errors Found to be Third Leading Cause of Death in the US

Medical errors including Medical Malpractice have been cited by researchers as the third leading cause of death in the United States behind heart disease and cancer.  The study was performed by researchers in the Department of Surgery at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.  The researchers estimated that 250,000 fatalaties in 2013 were caused by medical mistakes.  ABC World News Tonight and the CBS Evening News both reported on this study.  Researchers were quoted by reporters stating that such mistakes "shouldn't happen in a sound health care system" and that "patients can only do so much" to defend themselves.

Determining best course of action for hospital negligence claims

Louisiana hospitals are not immune to incidents where patients may suffer injury or illness due to medical errors. Hospital negligence is a serious issue that can wreak devastation and havoc in the lives of those adversely affected by it. In worst cases, many families have suffered the untimely deaths of loved ones when doctors or nurses have failed to adhere to accepted standards of practice and safety protocols.
